About Troop 834
Troop 834 was chartered in 1978, and since then has become one of the most active and respected units in the area.
We are dedicated to the development of character, citizenship, and physical and mental fitness. Our program provides the opportunity for leadership development and the learning of skills in a variety of subjects. The Troop is not an extension of school or family, but an entity unto itself, offering young men a chance to explore and learn about themselves.
We have an active program that involves a comprehensive outdoor program that is fun and challenging. We pledge ourselves to putting the time and energy into this effort.
Troop 834 is a "family Troop" in that we all strongly feel that most successful Scouts are supported very strongly by their family. Also, we believe that everyone has a vested interest in seeing our Troop program thrive, and everyone's help is needed to accomplish this. Every family has some responsibility in the Troop. We are one big family, with the best interests of our sons in common. We are successful because all of us are active and devoted to our Troop's success.
Because of our program, we are consistently awarded the "Quality Unit" award, every year.
Are you Prepared For the Fun.... and Challenge?

The "Involved" Troop
We believe that active involvement provides excellent opportunities for our sons to learn and practice the skills of Scouting.
Through a strong Scouting program, many of Troop 834's Scouts provide leadership for many major Scouting activities in the area. For instance, our Council camp, Wolfeboro, has a highly trained and motivated staff of about 45. Of those, 5 are from Troop 834 (four of them Eagle Scouts). This from a Council of almost 1,000 Scouts. At Camporee, which is the District camp out each spring, although we are only 1 of 36 Troops in the District, Troop 834 Scouts usually accounts for about 10% of the total attendees, and frequently over 10% of the youth Staff at the camp out. Again, an excellent opportunity for our Scouts to practice and expand their leadership and Scouting skills.
Every year, the Council provides a week-long leadership training program (Brownsea) for the 1,000 Scouts in the Council, and Troop 834 consistently occupies about 4 of the 36-72 openings, and again, our Scouts frequently serve in staff positions.
It is through this type of involvement that our sons get to use, and teach, the many Scouting skills they have learned over the years, and mature into well balanced, self-confident young men that do not compromise the basic values outlined in the Scout Oath and the Scout Law.
